The renaissance man, Vijay Mallya, has done it again. He has pulled off a coup of sorts by getting Sahara on board Team Force India, although unwittingly.
Mallya had invited Subrato for a mere Sunday drive (sponsorship ), but the latter enjoyed the adrenaline rush so much that he decided he wanted to buy the car itself!
It is a marriage of convenience for sure.
1x1 polls
Mallya's passion and ambition to fight toe to toe with the work's teams may happen after all. Considering the limited funding available to him on his Force India venture, he had got the team to a respectable level this season. As the end of the season draws near, performance level has reached a plateau after a rapid growth.
Force India had succeeded in putting it past major teams including the likes of Ferrari. This was done via strategies, including playing the cards of tyre poker very well. But the fact remains that these teams at the top will not take this humiliation lying down. They are constantly working their elves overtime to find ways to get that extra fraction of a second required to stay ahead. With research and development resources available in-house , the task becomes that much easier.
Of the US$100 million brought in by Sahara, I am unsure as to how much will go into the coffers of Force India and how much to the Mol family for dilution of their shares. Assuming that 50 million of this still remains to be ploughed into technology and a very large sum to be got from their share of television rights from the valuable points earned so far, Force India can afford to now upgrade to current specs existing facilities including their existing wind tunnel near Brackley and probably develop their own simulator as well.

Force India has been renting McLaren's simulator facilities so far at a fairly high price as can be imagined.
Sahara will benefit from this association , as this will catapult them into the glamorous world of motor racing and give them a completely different image. So far they have been world famous only in India! For Mallya this comes at a time when he sorely requires cash to sustain the impetus to get the team to climb up the grid. The re-capitalisation is going to improve and further its performance aspect.
The timing is right for Sahara as it now reaps the benefit instantly what with the Indian GP just round the corner. Mallya has been working relentlessly to bring home his team with some sense of respectability and this he has achieved to a degree.
